CELERY HARVEST
Celery harvesting involves cutting the stalks from the roots and trimming the outer stalk so that the celery can be packed into crates or boxes. Harvesters need to be able to lift 30-55 pounds and be able to use hand tools such as cutting knives. As work involves frequent stooping and bending, workers will need to be comfortable exerting themselves in this way. They will also need to work in various weather conditions where clothes may be covered in mud, water and grease.
ONION HARVEST
The harvesting of onions involves training the plants to grow with string support and trusses, layering the plants for picking, and deleafing the plant to improve growth and make room for the next crop. All workers are required to fulfil farming and production protocol and must know how to operate cart picking trolleys and garter systems.
CARROT PACKING
A carrot packing job involves picking out carrots by their stems, forming uniform bunches of produce, loading them onto a truck, washing them, then packing them up ready to be sold.
